Moynihan Train Hall

Transforming Moynihan Train Hall into a premier commuter concourse at the nation’s busiest train station, New York Penn Station.

Part of a multi-year agreement with Empire State Development Corporation (State of New York), ANC partnered to transform the Manhattan home for Amtrak and MTA - Long Island Railroad (LIRR). The Moynihan Train Hall expansion crosses 8th Avenue into the historic James A. Farley Post Office Building, part of a mixed-use redevelopment of the entire block.

During Phase I of the project, ANC deployed over 1,700 square feet of 4mm LED displays throughout the Moynihan Train Hall.

The complex features digital video screens in a range of a sizes, as well as ANC’s recommended integration of LCD kiosks, a unique trapezoid-shaped LED display for the north entrance stairwell, and ceiling box screens alongside glass lighting fins in the east bay to simulate the sky. The displays have live video capabilities and regularly feature important updates for passengers, along with NY-centric visuals to promote travel and create a more relaxing commuter environment.

For the Phase II deployment, ANC integrated 150 assets, LCD and fine-pitch LED displays, featuring up-to-the-minute passenger information from multiple transit entities. ANC’s content management system, LiveSync, is coordinating with all three of the different transit providers to display complex train times and information for each transit authority across the LCD and LED displays.

With an already ambitious tight project timeline, the ANC team delivered all work on-time despite shutdowns and health and safety challenges resulting from the COVD-19 pandemic.

In a press release New York's Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul said of the entire project, "This significant project transformed a century-old building into a modern gateway that expands Penn Station and significantly enhances the traveler experience."
